ROIG PARALS SAMSÓ VINYES VELLES 2005: Saturated ruby. Cherry and dark berry liqueur aromas are complemented by notes of cocoa, black cardamom and dried violet. Chewy and ripe, offering deep bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors, with dusty tannins adding grip. At once serious and expressive, with strong finishing sweetness and a lingering note of bitter cherry. Still a bit primary and worth cellaring for another five years.

PLA DEL MOLÍ 2005: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon-30% Merlot. Cherry, licorice, cracked pepper and spices on the nose. Firm cherry and berry skin flavors are framed by dusty tannins, which add structure and back-end grip. The cherry note lingers on the dusty, slightly hard-edged finish. This needs a fatty piece of meat to help round off its coarse edges.
